HOMESCHOOLING TIPS THAT WORK! (PART 4 OF 12)

Creating a Learning Space That Works for Every Age

You don't need a Pinterest-perfect classroom to run a powerful homeschool. After 35 years in public education, I can tell you: the best learning happens where children feel safe, seen, and settled — not where the furniture matches.

Here are three tips to set up a space that works:

1. Function first, aesthetics second. Start by asking one question: What does my child need to do here? A kindergartner needs open floor space and easy access to supplies. A high schooler needs a quiet zone and reliable technology. Let the answer shape your setup — not the other way around.

2. Create a "command center." Designate one spot — a shelf, a cabinet, a rolling cart — where all materials live. When everything has a home, your school day starts smoothly instead of with a search party.

3. Let your child have a voice in the space. Ask them what helps them focus and what distracts them. A child who helped design their learning environment is far more likely to respect it — and show up ready to learn.
