SUICIDE PREVENTION

Every 11 minutes, someone completes a suicide. There are 25 attempts for every completed suicide (ages 18-25) and four attempts for every completed suicide (ages 65 and above). The most common cause of suicide is untreated depression and other mental illnesses. Suicidal individuals indicate their intentions at least one week before they attempt or complete the act. Dr. Jean has certified hundreds of community members in suicide prevention. Social workers, nurses, teachers, principals, counselors, parents, pastors, managers, police persons, firefighters, grandparents caregivers, and so many more have become equipped with the knowledge of how to recognize the risk factors and warning signs of a suicidal individual.
